Sarah Corcoran, CEO of Plant Health Australia, has over 25 years of experience in biosecurity, spanning various roles in the Australian, Queensland and Northern Territory governments and the Australian Defence Force. Her expertise in biosecurity, regulatory frameworks, scientific research, and innovation has made her a key professional in the field. She has successfully delivered numerous eradication programs for agricultural and environmental pests and has managed biosecurity research and infrastructure investment, focusing on disease detection, management, and response.
Under her leadership, PHA has worked towards innovative solutions to protect Australia’s plant resources, ensuring the nation remains a global leader in producing high-quality food and fibre. Sarah is also a member of the Centre of Excellence for Biosecurity Risk Analysis and the Victorian Invasive Pests Advisory Boards.
Sarah has received several prestigious awards, including the 2019 Australian Biosecurity Award in the Government Category, the 2021 Dr Kim Ritman Award for Science and Innovation, the 2024 James Cook University Chancellor’s Award, and the 2025 Inspector General for Emergency Management International Women’s Day Award. Her and her teams have also been recognised with the 2017 NT Chief Minister’s Award for public sector excellence for their work in biosecurity; and the Emergency Media & Public Affairs Award for Excellence in Emergency Communications in Readiness and Resilience awarded to the Plant Health Australia Team in 2024.
In addition to her professional career, Sarah has served as an Army Reserve Specialist Services Officer, delivering training, research, and operational activities that enhance military operational readiness and foster community health and development. Her dedication to service beyond her civilian roles is evident in her contributions to both the civilian and military sectors.
