Rhett Heffernan

Pilot, Liddles Aerial Spraying
Rhett Heffernan

I began flying in 1983 while completing Years 11 and 12. In 1989, I graduated from Melbourne University with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Physical Education. That same year, I started my aviation career as a chemical mixer with Field Air in Ballarat. In 1990, I was promoted to Operations Manager for the Finley Rice Operations.

My first flying position came in 1991 with Aerocare in Griffith, where I was involved in sowing rice and spraying vegetables. In 2000, I took a major step forward by purchasing my first aviation business. This was followed in 2006 by the acquisition of a second business in Wee Waa, NSW, focused on spraying cotton and broadacre crops.

However, by 2014, the impact of the Millennium Drought had severely affected my operations. I then accepted an invitation to fly for Norm and Melanie at Liddles Aerial Spraying. Since 2015, I’ve been based in Far North Queensland, where I’ve continued aerial spraying across a range of crops including bananas, sugarcane, sorghum, cotton, and corn.

Today, I bring over 36 years of experience in agricultural aviation and have accumulated more than 15,500 flight hours.
