Dr Emily Rames is a Research Scientist at Department of Primary Industries (QLD) and is based at the Applied Biotechnology Laboratory, Maroochy Research Facility. Emily has 18 years’ experience working on banana R&D projects and is currently leading the tissue culture component of project BA21002 “New varieties for Australian banana growers”. This includes managing the industry post-entry quarantine (PEQ) tissue culture laboratory (as 2IC for DPI PEQ tissue culture), assisting the banana PEQ transition and managing the in vitro Australian Banana Germplasm Collection and the associated NIASA accredited laboratory. Emily also contributes to project AS21006 “Building an Advanced Genomics Platform for Australian Horticulture”. This project is enabling the genetic characterisation of varieties held in the Australian Banana Germplasm Collection, is identifying markers associated with agronomic traits and disease resistance and is building tools for accelerating genetic improvement and genomic selection.
