Dr. Gilding holds a life-long affinity for plants, being interested in their diversity from a young age. He was trained as a plant developmental biologist and subsequently worked in crop improvement, plant bioactive peptide discovery, and synthetic biology. A common theme in his career has been the application and interpretation of omics-level data to identify genes and regulatory networks. He has joined the world of plant pathology as part of his role with Biosecurity Queensland, where he is applying his knowledge to develop a novel Panama disease diagnostic workflow using high-throughput sequencing.
