Daniel Farrell is an early career Developmental Horticulturist – Entomologist with the Queensland Department of Primary Industries (DPI) based at South Johnstone. He holds a joint position supporting both the resident Entomologist and Plant Pathologist, contributing to field trials, laboratory experiments, data collection, and the processing of pest and disease samples under project BA21004: Banana Integrated Pest and Disease Management Program. Daniel has spent the past six years working as an insect ecologist in the banana industry, where he has developed specialist skills in applied entomology and pest management.
Alongside his professional role, Daniel is undertaking a Master of Research at James Cook University (Cairns), where he also completed undergraduate degrees in Zoology and Ecology. His research interests focus on predator–prey interactions and advancing the use of biological control agents within integrated pest management (IPM) systems in Australian agriculture.
