Opal is one of Australia and New Zealand’s largest recycling, paper and packaging businesses. Our team members work across 70 sites in Australia and New Zealand.
We manufacture innovative cardboard packaging and paper solutions and are committed to a circular economy approach.
Our business is based on a fully integrated fibre packaging value chain from raw materials to finished packaging to recycling and back as raw materials.
Our Paper Division manufactures used cardboard and locally grown plantation wood into a wide range of packaging papers and boards for Australia, New Zealand and overseas.
In 2024 our Botany Mill manufactured 430,000 tonnes of 100% recycled brown packaging paper from over 500,000 million tonnes of Old Corrugated Containers (OCC) – used cardboard. The Botany Mill was supplied by Opal Recycling which is the largest collector of OCC in Australia.
Our Maryvale Mill recycled approximately 100,000 tonnes of OCC into 84,000 tonnes of recycled paper. The Maryvale Mill also produces kraft papers.
Opal’s Packaging Division converts the papers into innovative packaging for our customers.
Opal is focused on providing customers with products and solutions that replace non-recyclable and single-use plastic packaging.
