In her role as Biosecurity Queensland’s Panama TR4 Program Leader, Rhiannon manages the control and containment of Panama disease tropical race 4, the most serious disease to threaten the Australian banana industry.
Rhiannon strength is her ability to work collaboratively with key stakeholders including the peak industry body, the Australian Banana Growers’ Council and research bodies. This approach has delivered one of the most successful Panama TR4 control and containment strategies in the world.
Her experience in biosecurity responses is wide ranging. Since joining Biosecurity Queensland in 1996, she has worked on numerous plant and animal pest emergency responses including Papaya Fruit Fly, Banana Black Sigatoka, Citrus Canker and Red Witch Weed.
