Welcome

Doug Phillips

ABGC Chairman

This exciting event will be held from May 29 to June 1, 2013 at the Palmer Coolum Resort (formerly know as Hyatt Regency Coolum) on the Sunshine Coast.

The Congress is the one event attended by everyone in our industry – from the growers who do the hard yards on our farms to the many industry partners who continue to help us maintain our position as one of Australia’s largest horticulture industries producing Australia’s number-one selling fruit. It is also a time when we meet, as an industry, with leaders and decision makers from Government and across the broader agriculture sector.

The Banana Industry Congress 2013 is my first as Chairman of the Australian Banana Growers' Council (ABGC), which hosts Congress. On behalf of my fellow Directors and the hundreds of growers we represent, I can assure you we are planning an event that will be a must for everyone in the industry.

We held the Congress at this excellent Sunshine Coast venue in 2011. With accommodation, Congress and recreation facilities all on the one site, we know we will make the most of our business and networking programs.

If you are already one of our valued delegates, sponsors or exhibitors, I hope you will again join us in 2013. If you would like to participate for the first time, I can assure you it will be a rewarding experience.

As we host Congress only every two years, I urge you to take this opportunity to be involved. Congress has become renowned for the value it adds to our industry and I can assure you that our 2013 event will carry on this fine tradition.
